Final training course in Hydra middelware
Training is an essential part of any project, and specifically in the context of Hydra, our goal is to ensure that stakeholders are particularly exposed to the value that the Hydra middleware can add to their ambient programming environment. For this reason, this training course gives an overview of the Hydra architecture and elucidates functionalities exposed by Hydra components and managers. Particular attention will be paid to provide a structured and systematic introduction to the key managers and components within the middleware, thereby providing the developers and manufacturers an introduction to what can be achieved by using the Hydra middleware.
A Device Development Kit (DDK) will be provided that enables device manufacturers to produce Hydra-enabled devices as well as an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
Keywords for the technological scope of the training are: Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud enabling technologies, Internet of Services, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), distributed intelligence, Model Driven Design.
Program
The program for the training course can be found here. At the course you will get an overview of the Hydra middleware and how to use it through a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises.
Venue
The training course will be held at
Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT)
Schloss Birlinghoven
53754 Sankt Augustin (close to Bonn)
(Room C5-318)
The location can be found here.
Participation and registration
The course is aimed at software developers that develop applications that incorporates heterogeneous physical devices in e.g. energy management, healthcare, environment, agriculture etc.
Participation in the training cource is free, but registration is required to Dr. Andreas Zimmerman (Andreas.Zimmermann@fit.fraunhofer.de). Early registration is strongly recommended since the number of participants is limited.
Technical requirements
Traniees need to bring their own laptop for hands-on tutorials. Please note the following requirements for the development environment to be installed before the start of the training:

Operating System
- Windows (XP onwards)
- JDK 6
- We require that the latest version (Update 21 05/08/10) of the Java Development Kit (JDK) be downloaded and installed.
- The System variable (Windows) must be configured, to make Java available at the command line. e.g. add "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin" to the "Path" System Variable (Windows 7 x64)
- A fresh, separate, installation of Eclipse is preferred
- Eclipse Galileo (3.5), NOT Eclipse Helios (3.6)
- The distribution entitled "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" (190 MB), should be downloaded and installed
- http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/release/galileo/sr2 .NET
- .NET 3.5 (Comes with visual studio)
- Visual Studio 2010 Professional (Express will work also but the material is intended for professional)
